Fashion show combines modernity and tradition: A charity fashion show is to be held at the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno on Monday, featuring works by Tokyo-based designers on the theme of koinobori carp streamers.

The title for the event, Dengen, is a combination of the Japanese words "dento" (tradition) and "gendai" (modern times), and conveys the idea of applying tradition to the age we live in. The event is meant to contribute to society through fashion design, according to the organizer.

The designers' creations will be auctioned, with profits donated to the World Wide Fund for Nature Japan.
